DRAMA!

Sorry for two strips in a row with no funny, everyone. God knows the last thing I want is for this strip to turn into "Apartment 3-G" or "Funky Winkerbean." It's just that in a way, I'm wrapping up a year-long story and I need to tie everything into a little bow before we dive back into the usual caustic, sarcastic shenannigans with the new cast arrangement.

I hope at least that most of you are enjoying the story (and from what I can tell, I think you are.) I calculate 3-4 more strips before this little magnum opus wraps up, and then I'll post a kind of "debriefing" post where I'll answer your questions. (And you will have questions ;)

PS: Kind of sad to write out my first "British" character after what just happened in London. Our thoughts go out to all of you over there.

After the Haley / Carol thing came outta the blue, I'm taking special note of that General saying "transfer to the next recruit" in suspicious BOLD TYPE !

You won't catch *me* off guard again !

actually john, the last frame, very nice. It comes off as General Armbruster talking to Carol / Haley, but carries a whole connotation for Alan & Haley, and lends something to him looking morose. Nice writing / art conjunction there.

God it sucks to be Alan.

I'm glad someone noticed that! This was a very hard strip to write, because it would have been three times as long if Armbruster were shown telling all six characters what had happened to them (the cover story) and they each had a chance to interact with him as he was doing it.

So I had to resort to exposition, but to break it up, I featured each character's reaction to the part of the cover story that affected them most. The juxtaposition of Armbruster's goodbye to Carol to the image of Alan and Carol in the last panel was intentional. As was the panel right before that with Tiffany and Caesar. (Has anyone noticed that Caesar is not on the cast page anymore?)

Yes, Honey, I think I was among the first to notice Caesar's absence.

And by the way, I like Funky Winkerbean. I followed it for over 20 years. Probably got me ready for Suburban Tribe!
