Beating back client deadlines with a stick. Thanks for your patience.
In the meantime; Sieg Heil, mein Fuhrer.
UPDATE:
Okay, whoa, stop. The point of the article is not Apple vs. Microsoft. The point of the article is that MS put an "Amnesty Bin" in its office, thereby suggesting that MS employees throw away their iPods for all the company to see, and they will be forgiven.
Do you honestly think that if an MS employee walks into the office with an iPod on his person and doesn't throw it in that bin that he won't be a target for management? If you don't, there is a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you.
Does anyone think that it would be cool for MS to put a PS3 Amnesty bin next to it? How about a box for all employees to trash their TiVos? Or Nintendo Wiis?
I'll bet that every employee who trashes their iPod will get the opportunity to purchase a Zune at a handsome 7% discount.
This isn't an Apple vs. Microsoft thing. It's an extreme example of a corporation forcing its culture on its employees-- in the hopes of it trickling out into the mainstream.
This is about bullying.

It's childish to critise Microsoft for this. It's their own business how they decorate their own offices.
Personally I'm getting tired of the Apple cultists. Their worse than religious extremists
I agree it is childish to criticize MS for putting up a iPod dump bin. Of course they want their people to give up the competitions product, that's a no-brainer. I heard there is a Zune bin at Apple HQ too, but it's empty 'cause nobody bought a Zune.
And Apple cultist(I like to call them Apple-Qaeda) ARE worse than religious extremists! Did you see the video on the internet of Steve Jobs beheading that MS contractor?? Or the podding death of an Apple employee that was caught using Windows? UGH! It was terrible - they just kept throwing their iPods at her until she stopped moving! I nearly wretched all over my Dell!! (Both videos available at iTunes)
Apple products are for wankers. End of.

Once upon a time, a bunch of Apple computers fell from the sky and killed a small family enjoying a picnic by a lake. Now I know that that family's surviving relatives read Suburban Tribe and would rather use a Tandy 100 SX than be caught with any kind of Apple product. I defy you to avoid online comic strips--the vast majority of which are created at least in part on Macs. :-)
Quite frankly, It looks like a MS/Zune intern was asked to go on Ebay and buy a bunch of dysfuntional iPods to seed the bin. Like the way a brusking musician will throw a few coins in the hat to make it look like some one else has donated to the cause.
aaaannd Apple doesn't force it's culture on it's employees, I'll bet. Nope. Not at all. Not in the least.
I could really care less about Microsoft vs. Apple (though Macs are made of fail and exist mainly for the purpose of making hipsters feel special and elite with digital bling, but hey, don't ask me, just check your credit card statement), but most digital comics are made with Macs? While that's pretty much up for debate, it's not about the computer you use, it's the skills behind it. Someone using Ubuntu and The Gimp who has skills could easily outdo some one with a Mac Intel Core 2 Duo who sucks on fire at making comics.
Sorry, I gotta disagree on this one. This just sounds like paranoia from the "OMG BILL GATES and MICRO$$$SOFT IS THE DEVIL KEKEKEKEKE" crowd. It's a PR move, made to make tech news.
Maybe Microsoft's next move ought to be to come up with a better R & D department next time they want to compete with iPod. Having used many .mp3 players over the years ... I have to say, that iPod is the runaway favourite because for most people, it really is the best one. Sure some players are cheaper or more durable, and the Zune is great if you want to scope out new music, but the iPod with iTunes really takes the cake.
That said, I side with Microsoft here. When you make an inferior product and have a vastly smaller market share (what, like 2%?), I find it very hard to find fault in any legal action you choose to pursue.
Many people don't realize that large coorporations like Microsoft are divided into separate departments - often with no link than the name. If the Zune flops, Microsoft *as a company* doesn't suffer too terribly. The .mp3 department will still close though, and an awful lot of people will be out jobs. It's not like most of those employees are 'assigned' to Zune one week and Xbox the next or anything.
Do you suppose those are the ipods of real employees in the Orwell Box, or do you think that they seeded it? Kind of like a bartender?
I can't speak for everyone else, but as soon as management pulls this kind of shit on me, I usually issue the bird and find somewhere else to work. I don't need a job that tries to ooze out into other areas of my life, demands unswerving loyalty even in areas which aren't related to my job, and especially not when the company would let me go as soon as it suited them.
Public sector science is the way to go. There are still tons of interpersonal and political droppings to be shoveled, but tons less than there ever were when I was in the private sector.
Also, I would in fact put something in the Amnesty Box. I doubt very much that they would appreciate my choice of a donation.
Thanks for the Sunday Strip Mr. lee.
This really isn't anything new; Coca-Cola allegedly fired an employee for drinking Pepsi while on the clock.
If this is still commentable..
This isnt a Microsoft issue. All business have some sort of "don't be using another companies products!" Law. Its not appropriate, you need to show support for your company.
Also, If you are working on the Zune and you are using an ipod instead, you are a tool and you are taking up valuable employment space. Not because of any Apple Vs MS deal, but because instead of putting actual effort into your product you are using the competition's. THAT is just bad work ethics.
