Magneto Sketch & X3 review

When I saw it the first time, I thought it was pretty darn good. Hell, my wife even liked it. All that bisserwissing by the mouth-breathing mental 5-year-olds online had me conditioned to the point where I was expecting to see the superhero equivalent of Godfather III. Then I took my nephew to see it one week later... and I still liked it. More, even.
Now don't get me wrong. The movie was good when it could have been great. But in my opinion, all that was missing was about 20 -30 more minutes of character interaction -- especially for the Dark Phoenix storyline -- that could have addressed so many issues that the movie raised and then moved on from without a second glance, including:
- Abortion clinic bombings
- Terrorism
- The War on Terrorism/Pre-emptive war
- Class and Racism
- Genocide
- Etc, etc.
AND IN THE "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY" DEPARTMENT:
There is a scene during the movie in which Magneto (who admittedly is a terrorist) issues a recorded warning statement which other characters watch... on FOX NEWS. Give me a break! I half expected Bill O'Reilly to show up on the TV screen and tell everyone watching what a scumbag Magneto is.

Well of COURSE it was on Fox news... X3 was, in fact, made by 20th Century Fox films - what are they going to do, give ABC a plug? No way!
"The movie was good when it could have been great."
That pretty much sums it up. And the Dark Phoenix storyline, after such a big buildup, kind of ended with a fizzle -- it seemed as though the filmmakers kind of forgot she was even there while they were dealing with Magneto's storyline, and once they remembered her, threw in the first Phoenix-storyline ending they could think of; the characters didn't even discuss the more blindingly obvious alternatives. Ah well, at least it was a decent popcorn flick, and the scene after the credits provided some hope for the future.
Great Magneto drawing, BTW.
As anonymous said, it's a popcorn flick, and an enjoyable one at that. I'm an admitted comic fanboy, but I know how stupid it would look to have Lilandra, the Shi'ar, Gladiator, etc. show up.
My biggest complaint about X3 is that they didn't carry over the fiery/Phoenix effect Jean had in X2. I mean, a Phoenix raptor would have been REALLY cool, but a little bit of fire would have been nice.
Oh, great sketch of Magneto! I'd love to see you tackle Hank McCoy!:)
If we're talking about best movie deaths ever... For me it's the person getting beheaded in "The Haunting". Just awesome.
Thanks for taking me to X-3, calling me your "sci-fi buddy," and answering my question on Suburban Tribe. Nana left about half an hour ago, so I will see you next Sunday. And by the way, nice drawing of Magneto.
Is it just me . . . look at the photo of hugh hefner . . . then at the sketch of magneto . . . there's a certain resemblence . . . coincidence ? I think *NOT* ! ;)
ha john your comics are really good. well next time when you talk to dalton tell him to call his friend jonathan pike because I dont know if he's mad at me but he is pretty much the only friend I have and he hasent called me so please do that for me.

Jonathan Pike
