Big, shiny brass ones

Every so often, we need a gentle reminder that Bill Gates is Lucifer's lapdog.

Take this article for exapmle, wherein Billzebub says "As good as Apple may be, I don't believe the success of the iPod is sustainable in the long run... if you were to ask me which mobile device will take top place for listening to music, I'd bet on the mobile phone for sure".

I guess Son of Scratch missed this Wired article from a few months ago documenting the fact that "80 percent of Microsoft employees have a[n iPod] music player -- that translates to 16,000 iPod users among the 25,000 who work at or near Microsoft's corporate campus." He might also be ignoring the fact that iPods are firmly attached to the hands and hips of most of the people in working in the film and music industries, from big-name artists down to the Key Grips. And I'm pretty sure he wasn't in that Apple Store with me last January 3rd, when I saw lines and lines of people snatching up iPods and accessories as if they were free cuts of prime rib.

My wife gave me an iPod for our anniversary a few months ago. After the "kewl" factor wore off in a few days, a very strange thing happened; I found that, without thinking about it, I never left the house without the thing. Everyone should have an iPod. It doesn't matter if you're into music and/or walkman-type devices or not. The fact that you can carry 10k+ songs in a device the size of a deck of cards is not a novelty. "Empowering" may not be the right word, but it's not far off.

I'm sure Mister Bill's little "predicition" is the first sign that Microsuck has a stake in an upcoming phone/camera/MP3 player that they suspect (or even know) is inferior to the iPod, but they're gonna market the thing right up our collective butts anyway. Sorry, you suit, but I won't be trading in my iPod for a very long time.

As cool as it is to bash BG and there are plenty good reasons to do so, this is one where he pretty much dead on. While "80 percent of Microsoft employees have a[n iPod] music player" I would wager 99% have mobile phones.

iPods are cool, but so was the Walkman. Trends pass. Wireless entertainment/communication devices are really where its going. Think of a PSP with a phone/messager on it. I was seriously thinking about buying an iPod till the PSP came along. It plays games, video, and music???!!!? It's comparatively priced??!!!?? HMMMMMM.

"He might also be ignoring the fact that iPods are firmly attached to the hands and hips of most of the people in working in the film and music industries, from big-name artists down to the Key Grips." I doubt it. He is also aware of the prevalence of the Blackberry in this group and other trendsetting groups.

Heard that statement over and over again concerning the Xbox before it rolled out. Now all i hear are the crickets chirping.

I guess what it comes down to is I just hate the thought that engineers at Apple worked to fill the need for a simple, portable, high-capacity MP3 player and Bill Gates is stepping in 2 years late to take his cut of the pie. As usual. Maybe it wouldn't bother me so much if I were not downloading critical updates for XP every other week.

You have to keep downloading critical updates, security patches and crap every so often. With Macintosh, you don't have to take all this crap, you don't get viruses, and your computer doesn't freezes so easily. And Internet Explorer is one of the worst browser I've ever seen. I'm using Opera(fastest browser on Earth) and Firefox, two MUCH better browsers. No more patches and crap.

Seems sort of obvious to me that the next-gen iPods are going to include mobile phone functionality. Apple's just weird, not stupid.

A mobile phone with an mp3 player wouldn't mean it's real good. Lotsa mp3 players in those mobile phones out there are real crappy. iPod = style.

But style != quality. A lot of audiophiles seem to think that other digital audio players provide much better sound than the iPod. Of course, I don't own any type of player myself. That doesn't mean that I don't want an iPod. Of course, the PSP is an interesting option.

The iPod loses out in the equalizer section. It doesn't provides manual equalizer, it only gives us pre-sets one which doesn't makes full-use of the bass.

And you wonder why Pete Townshend can't hear a damn thing anymore.
