Happy Halloween

Today is the end of the Halloween story. Stand-alone strips Wednesday and Friday, then the final story arc of 2005 on November 7.

The pledge drive will end this Friday, November 4. Several people already qualify for the grand prize. Please donate if any of the pledge drive merchandise grabs you; none of it will be offered again after Friday.

Much more that I want to say about the pledge drive, but it will have to wait a day or so... I spent more than half of my weekend at the day job. >: (

Must sleep now.

The Pledge Drive is underway

Check out this page for some cool incentive merchandise and some cool prizes.

And remember: YOU DON'T HAVE TO DONATE A LOT TO MAKE THIS PLEDGE DRIVE A ROUSING SUCCESS. If every unique visitor to this site per week donated $1.00(US) I could:

- Make my house payment for 5 months!
- Pay for hosting for Suburban Tribe for 41 years!

So if you think this comic is worth $1.00 a year, please consider making a donation now.

Pledge Drive postponed. Again.

UPDATE: Carol's pinup is well uderway. Click on the pic for a closer look.

I had to work the Day Job Saturday and Sunday, and will probably end up working late on Monday night (10/17) too.

Everything is in place; Paypal donation code, the links and banners and page full of goodies (incentive prizes) but I haven't had time to color the limited edition prints. Hopefully, I can kill this deadline this Monday night and end some of this craziness.

For now, I'll put the start of the Pledge Drive at Monday the 24th. That way, if I can get the ball rolling before then, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Here's a list of the random prizes and liited-edition stuff I'm going to offer. Limited edition merchandise will
only be available during the pledge drive:

One grand prize: A night out in Louisville with myself, "Skip" and "Dave," plus a guest appearance in a Suburban Tribe comic strip
One second prize: Guest appearance in a Suburban Tribe comic strip
One random prize: Personalized Yesman & Puckerup coffee mug
Two random prizes: Original art used in the Tiffany and Carol limited-edition prints
Limited Edition merchandise: 4-color signed 8 x 10 Tiffany "cheesecake" print
Limited Edition merchandise: 4-color signed 8 x 10 Carol "cheesecake" print
Limited Edition merchandise: Alan's "WTF?" coffee mug

BAH!

No strip today. On a scale of 1 to 10, both home and work life have been set at 23 or so this past week. (That's why Wednesday's strip was so clone-heavy.) I'm going to have to work this weekend, so it's likely that the pledge drive will be pushed back at least a few days. Sorry.

In the meantime, here's a sketch I drew of my four-year-old niece as Spider-Man. Also, our friend Gene, who registered suburbantribe.org last Friday, has created a mirror site for Suburbantribe.net located at http://suburbantribe.org/mirror.php Thanks, Gene.

New strip and update on the Pledge Drive status this Monday.

Doh!

If you stopped by on Friday, you probably saw a "Cyber-squatter" page posted by my hosting provider, GoDaddy.com instead of a new comic. A few of you panicked, as did I.

The long story short: GoDaddy temporarily revoked my hosting services because
my domain registration expired and did not auto-renew because that account was pointed to my Visa card... the one I paid off and cancelled 2 months ago.

And what was that
crack I posted last week about being a better businessman about all of this? God, I suck.

Everyone should be able to see the site now, and you can check Friday's strip here or go back one day in the archives. Special shout out to Gene, who, upon seeing the cyber-squatter page went above and beyond the call of duty for any ST fan and registered www.suburbantribe.org and held it for me because he feared the unthinkable. Suburbantribe.org now redirects to
this site. Take a bow, Gene.

Mission Hill
Last year, Sequential Tart gave me a glowing review and compared Suburban Tribe favorably to a cancelled animated TV show called Mission Hill.

Mission Hill was created by former writers/producers of "The Simpsons" and ran for about 20 seconds on the WB in 1999 then it was yanked after 6 episodes out of 13 were aired. The entire series runs on Adult Swim once a year or so, but I always seem to miss it. I have seen clips of the episode where Andy opens a strip club, but that's all.

The show has a cult following, an
d it's apparently large enough to get the entire series released on DVD this November. The DVD set is on my Amazon Wishlist for Christmas and all of my relatives have been notified that I desperately want to see with my own two eyes if Alan < Andy or vice-versa. Should be fun!

SNEAK PREVIEW!
Here are the pencils for one of the two incentive prints for the pledge drive next week. Other prizes and incentives will be offered as well, but you'll have to wait till then for those. (Click on the pic for a larger version.)

If it's October, why is it still so fricking hot?

October 3rd saw the end of the latest story. I get excited when I start a story and I get a real sense of relief when I finish one, but being in the middle of one is a drag. This arc was purposefully low-key, but I think you'll like this year's Halloween story (starting Wednesday) and the Holiday story will introduce a new permanent cast member, so stick around.

I've been working on the cheesecake prints (yes, prints) for the pledge drive as well as putting together some special prizes/incentives. Stay tuned for the 17th.

A few days ago I heard about a web comic that cut a deal with a major comic book publisher. The comic in question is, in my opinion, kinda stinky. (I won't name names, so don't ask.) It suddenly dawned on me that if I had 1/4 of the skills of those business men whom I despise so, I might not be on the short end of this creative stick. Damn Irony, why can't it leave me alone?

Anyway, not much else to report. Nicholas Cage named his newborn son "Kal-El." Way to go Nick, you effing jerk.

Before I forget, my wife found this post on the "Best of" Craig's List. I thought it was funny, but a little "salty" in parts, so beware. Glad I'm not dating anymore.

P.S.: The Complete Calvin & Hobbes is now available for about 90 smackers at Amazon.com. That is an absolute steal. Watterson also recently answered 15 questions submitted by readers to celebrate the release of his work.
